Description
-
Digital collection of newspaper advertisements which were placed by movie theaters in Lynchburg, Virginia. These advertisements promoted the education film, Birth of a Baby. The film had been the target of censorship efforts by the City of Lynchburg, which lost its legal case against the Paramount Theater in 1940 when the state ruled that local jurisdications could not ban films that had been approved for audiences across the state by the state's motion picture censors board. These advertisements ran in the Lynchburg Daily Advance and Lynchburg Daily News on April 4, 1940; April 14, 1940; April 19, 1940, April 20, 1940; April 21, 1940; April 23, 1940; April 24, 1940; and May 2, 1940. There are additional advertisements about the film that are not included in this set of digital images.
