Title: Letter from S. Fife of London, England to Jefferson Davis of Memphis, Tennessee; December 13, 1875
Description: A letter related to the Mississippi Valley Society, a British company organized to induce European immigration into Mississippi. The Mississippi Valley Society was conceived in November 1872 in St. Louis, Missouri. In 1875, the association asked Jefferson Davis, former President of the Confederate States of America, to head the movement. Davis agreed and was appointed President of the American Department. However, the plan eventually failed when required funding was not secured.
