"UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,
DISTRICT OF GEORGIA.
At Marshalls Sales, at the Court-House, in Savannah, on Tuesday, the fifth day of April, one thousand eight hundred and forty-two, being the first Tuesday thereof,
James Potter - - - - - - - - - - bought at said sales Negroes Hannibal, Charlotte, [Minty?], Hanibal Jur, Sam 2nd, Carolina, Patty, Molly, Dick Armstrong, Betty, Dick Jnr, Cilla John,
Caroline, Lucy, Peggy, Billy, Indy, [Renty], [Suram 2nd],
Sylvia, Will, Anthony
Levied on as the property of Thos. B. King, to satisfy two fi. fa.s issued out of the 6th Circuit Court of the United States for the District of Georgia, at the instance of Richard Carnochan and Rise, Parker & Co. vs. Thos. B. King, and the same was advertised according to law.
Received, on this the day and year aforesaid, from James Potter the sum of Six Thousand and five hundred and, five dollars - - - -
and being the highest and best bid that could be obtained for said Negroes at said sales, and I, Wm J Davis Marshall of the United States for the District of Georgia aforesaid, for and in consideration of the sum of six thousand and five dollars to me in hand paid, by the said James Potter - - -
as aforesaid, do, by these presents, bargain, sell and deliver unto the said James Potter the said Negroes together with all the right, title, demand or claim of the said Thos. B. King,
or which he ever had at law, or in equity TO HAVE AND TO HOLD the said Negroes
to him the said James Potter
Heirs, Executors, Administrators, and Assigns, to the only proper use and behoof of the said James Potter his Heirs, Executors, Administrators and Assigns, forever.
In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and seal, the day and year aforesaid.
